Coronavirus update

  • More details will be released today and tomorrow of how local services will be affected when the new national lockdown proposals are agreed by Parliament on Wednesday, to take effect the following day.
  • Dr Tina Kenny, the medical director for the Buckinghamshire NHS Trust, said the number of positive cases of coronavirus in the county has quadrupled in the past two weeks. On Saturday 70 new cases were confirmed. Yesterday 136 new cases were added.
  • The latest number of confirmed new cases in our immediate area in the seven days to last Friday night showed 142 in the South Bucks (Beaconsfield) area, giving a rate of 201 per 100,000 population; 173 in the Wycombe area, which includes Tylers Green and Hazlemere, giving a rate of 99 per 100k population and 94 in the Chiltern area, which includes Penn, giving a rate of 98 per 100k population.
  • Neil MacDonald, chief executive of the Buckinghamshire NHS Trust has urged people to keep to scheduled appointments for scans, outpatients and surgery despite the increase in new virus cases. “The mood on the wards is understandably worried but incredibly stoical,” he said. “There’s a real sense that we have to look after each other.”
  • Windsor Theatre Royal, the only major theatre in the area still open, confirmed last night it had cancelled the performance of Lloyd George Knew My Father from Thursday and will be contacting those who have booked seats for later shows.

Local news

Bin collections –  The council says residents may not receive a calendar outlining bin collection dates over Christmas and the winter period  because collection days may change in the spring. It is possible to download a calendar covering the period from now until the end of April on  https://crowd.in/sFZkzX   and entering your postcode.

Firework incidents – Police are investigating after a firework was thrown through the window of a house in Ashley Drive, Tylers Green on Saturday night. The explosion created a lot of smoke and two fire engines were called. Fire fighters checked the house over with thermal imaging cameras but damage was thought to be minimal. Elsewhere police confiscated fireworks which a group of youths were using to throw at houses and cars (and the police) in Hazlemere

Wind damage – Strong winds lifted a gazebo in Rose Avenue, Hazlemere and left it tangled in a tree.  Fire fighters had to be called to retrieve it.

Planning protest – Penn Parish Council has objected to the Government’s White Paper proposing the easing of local planning laws.  It says the proposals would have “detrimental effects” on the community and would remove the influence of parish councils and members of the community on future planning applications.

New vicar – The new vicar of Penn Street and Holmer Green the Rev Ruth Atkinson will be licensed at a special service at Holy Trinity, Penn Street, today before an invited and limited audience. The service is being recorded and then issued on DVD for other parishioners to see.
