Coronavirus update

  • The Rev Mike Bisset, vicar of Holy Trinity, Penn and St Margaret’s, Tylers Green confirmed yesterday that Remembrance Sunday services around the village’s war memorials are now cancelled, as are other church services. He is talking with Royal British Legion representatives about the laying of wreaths.
  • The Potters Arms in Winchmore Hill reopened yesterday after a two week  closure and a deep clean due to one of its team showing Covid symptoms. Now, like other pubs, it will have to close again on Wednesday night. Some local cafes and eating establishments announced take-away services from Thursday.
  • Buckinghamshire Council leader Martin Tett said the council did not have any plans to ease parking restrictions as was the case in the last lockdown. Arriva Buses said they did not foresee any change to local bus services at this stage but reminded  passengers of their “exact fare, no change” policy. People who do not have the exact cash will not receive change – it will be donated to NHS charities instead. The company is urging passengers to pay by contactless card.
  • The Empire Cinema in Cressex closed yesterday in anticipation of the lockdown. People who have pre-booked tickets will be automatically refunded.  High Wycombe’s other cinema complex  – Cineworld in the Eden Centre – closed some weeks ago. The Elgiva Theatre in Chesham confirmed last night it will close from Thursday.
  • Hazlemere Covid 19 Group has appealed for more volunteers to help deliver leaflets to those self-isolating in the area and to assist with admin. Email Ed Gemmel on cv@hazlemerehall.org if you can help.
