Coronavirus update

  • Buckinghamshire RSPCA launched a Christmas Rescue appeal yesterday in anticipation of hundreds of pets in the area being abandoned in the coming weeks, largely due to the consequences of the pandemic. 
  • The number of people being treated for Covid in Buckinghamshire hospitals  averaged just 14 in the week ending last Tuesday, lower than neighbouring health authorities. One patient was on a ventilator. 
  • A report to Bucks fire authority tomorrow shows that BP provided free fuel for the county’s fire engines between April and June to help them cope with extra costs brought about by the pandemic. 
  • A group of people working from home in Hazlemere during the lockdown have formed a Hazlemere Hotdeskers Facebook group so they can meet up in twos for lunchtime walks.

Bus stops suspended – Arriva Buses say bus stops in School Road, Tylers Green are suspended this week while BT conducts road works. Passengers are advised to use the stop by Widmer Pond on the common. Chiltern Railways say Marylebone Station will be closed next Sunday (22nd) for engineering works.

Gagging row – A “secrecy” row erupted last night after it was revealed that 253 companies and public bodies have signed gagging orders with HS2 meaning they will not discuss details of agreements made between them. They include Affinity Water, Thames Water, the National Trust and the Canal and River Trust.

Swampy in court –  Environmental activist Swampy denied aggravated trespass on land  acquired by HS2 when he and four others appeared in court yesterday. Swampy, aka Dan Hooper, a former Holmer Green Senior School pupil, was sent for trial next May. He is accused of illegally occupying trees on the HS2  route in Jones’ Hill Wood near Great Missenden.
