  • Even though the number of coronavirus cases is lower than neighbouring areas there has still been a noticeable increase in the immediate Penn and Tylers Green area. Figures released by Buckinghamshire Council today show that in the week ending 26 September there were 124 new cases in the county, an increase of 35 per cent on the previous week. The largest percentage swings are in the Chiltern area, which includes Penn, and the South Bucks area which includes Beaconsfield.
  • The figures are continuing to rise. Public Heath England said that in just 24 hours on Monday/Tuesday  this week 60 new cases were confirmed in Buckinghamshire. Today’s provisional figure is 101. A more detailed breakdown issued by the Government shows that last week (ending 3 October) there were eight new cases in the Knotty Green/Holmer Green area which includes Penn; seven new cases in Beaconsfield; six in Hazlemere and three in Tylers Green.
  • Oxfordshire is on “red alert” after the number of cases soared in Oxford city where 99.7 people per 100,000 people have recently contracted the virus. In neighbouring Buckinghamshire the figure is 22.8 cases per 100,000.
  • Buckinghamshire Council said this week the pandemic has left them with a shortfall of £7m, despite additional funding from the Government.
  • Wycombe (and Tylers Green) MP Steve Baker said today he will oppose the 10pm curfew on pubs and other hospitality venues when it is put to the vote in the House of Commons next week. He said the rule is “badly evidenced and appears to be counter productive.”
  • Windsor and Maidenhead yesterday cancelled the traditional Remembrance Sunday parade and civic service. A short act of remembrance will take place at two memorials in the towns, but the public is being asked not to attend. Local Remembrance Day arrangements are expected to be announced soon.
  • There will be no  firework display and bonfire at Penn and Tylers Green football ground this year.
  • Tylers Green First School has asked parents to ensure their children’s clothes and property are all named as they cannot keep a big lost property basket.
