THE PARENTS of new born Edith Cunningham are preparing for a sponsored walk to raise money for the hospital that saved their daughter’s life.
Edie was born in February but within days it was obvious she was seriously ill. A twisted intestine was diagnosed and she was rushed to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital for emergency surgery. The two hour operation began on the four day old in the middle of the night.
Now Sam and Amy Cunningham, of Hammersley Lane, Tylers Green are planning a 17 mile sponsored walk along the banks of the River Thames to raise funds for the Oxford Hospitals Charity to say thank you. The charity funds equipment, research and facilities to support patients.
Mrs Cunningham said: “When Edie was only four days old she was incredibly poorly and was rushed in an ambulance to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. In the middle of the night she had two-hour surgery to correct a malrotation of the intestine and spent a week in hospital recovering.
“We will forever be grateful to the doctors and nurses for both saving her life and caring for her afterwards.”
Edie is now at home having made a full recovery. Her parents are undertaking their sponsored walk on 8 May and have a Just Giving fundraising page if you would like to contribute.

The Duke died last Friday aged 99 and his funeral takes place on Saturday at Windsor Castle. Thames Valley Police have said that they will be recording all number plates of vehicles in Windsor on Saturday as part of the general security arrangements. The public is being asked not to congregate in Windsor because of the Covid restrictions.
Bellringers Michael and Alison Bayley tolled the Holy Trinity, Penn church bell 99 times last Saturday as a mark of respect to the duke.
