Coronavirus update

  • Provisional figures for the week to yesterday showed the Wycombe area – which includes Tylers Green and Hazlemere – bucking the trend with an increased number of new Covid cases compared to the previous week. There were 225 new cases in the seven days to yesterday compared to 196 for the previous seven days. In the Chiltern area, which includes Penn, there were 61 new cases compared to 67 previously; and in South Bucks, including Beaconsfield, there were 80 new cases, down from 103 new cases the week before.
  • Wycombe Wanderers yesterday received clearance to allow 1,000 supporters into their match with Stoke City at Adams Park tomorrow – the first time fans have been allowed into the ground since February. The supporters are all season ticket holders or key sponsors and have a specific invitation. The club is planning to let 2,000 season ticket holders into its next home fixture on 12 December.
  • Holy Trinity Church in Penn Street will be holding its annual Christingle service via Zoom next Sunday, 6 December, but is planning a “Carols in the car park” event, with strict local distancing, on 20 December. 
  • The National Trust said that Hughenden Manor will reopen next Monday, the 7th. The Trust shop reopens on Thursday.

Bollard plan pulled – Penn Parish Council has withdrawn a plan to place bollards along the verge of the front common by Elm Road.

Phone mast rejected – The mobile phone companies have lost an appeal to a Government planning inspector to erect a phone mast by Winchmore Hill common.  They are trying to find another site nearby.
