Coronavirus update

  • In the wake of yesterday’s Government announcement on easing restrictions for Christmas, plans to make the best of a restricted run-up to Christmas in Penn and Tylers Green are being finalised by a group of residents. They include a festive village  lighting event, a festive house decoration competition, a treasure hunt and Father Christmas touring the village in his sleigh. There’ll be details in the December Village Voice magazine.
  • Slough Council said yesterday it was making plans to be a tier 3 area – the highest, most stringent, Covid rating – when lockdown ends next week. Figures for Monday showed that 325 people per 100,000 of the town’s population were currently infected, more than twice that in neighbouring Buckinghamshire. 
  • The Old Queen’s Head in Penn said it was now taking online bookings for up to six people from next Thursday, 3 December. 
  • Windsor Theatre Royal is going ahead with its pantomime Cinderella from next Thursday but with reduced audiences and only family bubbles of up to six allowed. Everyone over 11 will need to wear a face covering. Other main theatres in the area are remaining closed until  the end of January.

School parking plea – Mrs Jude Talbot, head of Tylers Green First School, has once again appealed to parents not to drop their children off outside the school and instead use nearby car parks. She said there had recently been two near-miss incidents involving children crossing School Road and reports of cars being damaged by passing vehicles. 

Parcel alert – The local Neighbourhood Watch is asking people to ensure that parcels are not left where they are visible. The group said there is now “further evidence” that postal and parcel delivery drivers are being followed by thieves waiting to see if parcels are left on doorsteps. 

Drug busts – Police raided a private house in Beaconsfield early yesterday and arrested a man on suspicion of supplying drugs. They said a large amount of cash and drugs were seized.  In Maidenhead a suspected drug dealer was tasered by police in the street when he tried to flee a stop and search team. He was arrested on suspicion of supplying illegal drugs.

M25 service station talks – The Welcome Break company announced yesterday that it is in talks with Buckinghamshire Council about building a motorway service station by the M25 between the M40 and the M4.It will include a hotel and over 100 electric vehicle charging points.
