Coronavirus update
- High Wycombe has the highest number of new Covid cases in Buckinghamshire new figures show. In the week to last Saturday night (7 November) there were 172 cases per 100,000 of the population compared to 137 cases the week before. However there are startling differences within the Wycombe area. Totteridge, for instance had 16 new cases last week (232 per100k) whereas next door in Hazlemere there were eight new cases (86 per 100k).
- In Tylers Green there were six new cases (106 per 100k) and in the Penn, Knotty Green, Holmer Green area 14 new cases (159 per 100k).
- A sculpture of a rainbow – the symbol of people’s gratitude to NHS and care workers during the pandemic – is to be erected on the roundabout at the entrance to Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The 6.5 metre rainbow will be covered with over 1,000 tiles in appropriate colours. It is being funded by local businesses and organisations.
- Buckinghamshire councillors met with business leaders in the county yesterday to discuss how the council can further help stricken companies during this second lockdown.
- Local bus company Arriva reminded all its passengers yesterday that there should be just one person in any row of seats unless they are travelling with a family member.
- An e-scooter loan system, similar to the Boris bike scheme in London, is being introduced into central High Wycombe from Monday to give people a green alternative to public transport in the pandemic. Twenty five scooters are being made available in a Government backed trial for 15p a minute. Riders need to be over 16 and hold a provisional or full driving licence.
- Local Hindus, Sikhs and Jains are being asked to celebrate the beginning of the Diwali festival tomorrow by attending numerous online events and not by meeting together.

Police raids -A big police operation yesterday aimed at smashing an organised crime syndicate included early morning raids on homes in Flackwell Heath, Woburn Green and Bourne End. A number of arrests have been made and drugs, clothing, jewellery and vehicles seized.
Bear necessities – Children at Tylers Green First School will be wearing pink or spotty or Pudsey Bear style clothing today as part of their fund raising for Children in Need. They have also been involved in wellbeing activities this week, including a video exercise session with Joe Wicks and performing an act of kindness both in and out of school.
