Coronavirus update

  • Health statistics published this week showed that in an area that includes Penn, Knotty Green and Holmer Green nine people have died from Covid-19 in the three months to the end of May (two in March, four in April and three in May). One person died in Tylers Green (in April) and four in Hazlemere (one in March and three in April).
  • Tylers Green Middle School says it has plans in place for a full time return to school in September, which will include a “recovery curriculum” enabling children to catch up on any lost learning.
  • Figures this week showed that 96,000 jobs in Buckinghamshire (including Milton Keynes) were furloughed up to the end of May. The Government said nearly 30,000 self-employed people were financially supported in the same period.
  • The Government is expected to announce next week that the Eleven Plus examination which is usually sat in September will be held later. Grammar schools in Bucks have asked that it be taken in November.
  • Penn and Tylers Green Sports and Social Club is open for members only for sales of take-away drinks.  The Old Queen’s Head in Penn is opening its shed in the garden for take-away drinks between noon and 3pm on Sunday, Father’s Day.
  • People can return books to Hazlemere Library from Monday without receiving fines if the borrowing period ran out during lockdown. The council is aiming to reopen all libraries from 6 July.
  • Odds Farm Park in Wooburn Common says it plans to reopen in the next week or two. The ten pin bowling alley in Wycombe’s Eden Centre is planning to reopen on 4 July. Local cinemas expect to reopen in mid-July.
  • The Buckinghamshire Royal Pigeon Racing Association resumed its activities this week, releasing birds in the Isle of Wight.
