Tina’s retirement – Tina Brown is retiring after 20 years as manager of Tylers Green Village Hall. Anyone interested in taking on the five mornings a week role which involves co-ordinating bookings and dealing with the hall admin should contact Paul Ricketts at pfr.66@talktalk.net
Show cancelled – The proposed Penn and Tylers Green Village Show, due to be held in a reduced form on the common on Sunday 13 September because of the Covid-19 restrictions, has now been cancelled due to “a number of problems”. The annual show will return in the village hall on 26 June next year.
Schools return – Teachers welcoming pupils at the front and back entrance of Tylers Green Middle School when school resumes tomorrow will be equipped with walkie-talkie radios so they can contact other members of staff if needs be. Inside, the school has been extensively re-designed to ensure Covid secure standards. The school’s Friends’ Association has paid for lockers for each child to keep his or her belongings in.
At Tylers Green First School children will be in class “bubbles” and, at least until half term, will eat their packed lunches in their classroom. All children will be supervised to wash their hands on entry, after each playtime and before lunch. There will be three supervised loo breaks but children using the toilets at other times will do so one at a time.
Ruthie Pocock’s Little Oaks Nursery is also operating from the school for the first time and has a separate entrance.
At Manor Farm Junior School, where similar safety measures are in place, head teacher Andrew Sierant has asked parents to contact the school office if they feel the coronavirus lockdown and its consequences means their children may qualify for free school meals.
Return to local street cleaners – Veolia, the company that begins a ten year contract to collect household waste and deliver street cleaning next Monday, says it will introduce a “village approach” to street cleansing with local teams responsible for their area. New bin lorries will be introduced next year with technology that will enable residents to track where refuge vehicles are and receive updates on their mobiles should there be any delays.
Crime increase – Crime continues to rise in the area since lockdown. In the Chepping Wye Valley area, which includes Tylers Green and Hazlemere, 103 crimes were reported in July, compared with 95 in June, 89 in May and 65 in April. Figures for the Chalfonts area, which includes Penn, are not yet available.
Charity concert – Wycombe Chamber Choir is performing a 45 minute concert on Tylers Green back common from 4pm on Sunday (6 September) with a collection afterwards for the One Can Trust.
Tidy-up – A village-wide litter pick is being planned for Sunday, 27 September as part of a national clean-up campaign by Keep Britain Tidy. If you would like to join in email Madalyn Roker at madalynroker@hotmail.com
Cup history – Improvements to Penn and Tylers Green Football Club’s French Meadow ground, including the installation of floodlights, means that for the first time the team is eligible to play in the FA Vase competition this year. They host Burnham in the first qualifying round on 19 September.
Charity cricket – A six a side village cricket tournament at Penn and Tylers Green Cricket Club raised hundreds of pounds for MIND on Sunday.
Pub protection – Hazlemere Parish Council has been asked to register The Mayflower pub as an “Asset of Community Value” to enable it to have a measure of protection to remain as a pub should it ever close.
Housing plan – An outline planning application to build 103 homes on the site of the former Tralee Farm off Wycombe Road, Holmer Green, near its junction with Sawpit Hill, has been submitted.
Allotments popular – There’s been a surge in interest in allotments during the lockdown. In the Chepping Wycombe Parish Council area, which includes Tylers Green, there are 11 people on a waiting list.
