Here is the news: there is less of it

THESE are not good days for local news providers. The Beaconsfield Society has ditched its community news Facebook page due to “lack of resources and growing insults and abuse.”

Elsewhere a petition has been launched to try to save the Mix 96 independent local radio station after its owners announced plans to merge it into a national network of local stations with similar programming and changed name.  Meanwhile, the BBC has announced job cuts among its local radio stations which will affect BBC Three Counties covering Beds, Herts and Bucks.

The Bucks Free Press no longer publishes its circulation figures for its printed editions, instead referring to its total “reach” for both print and digital. It’s thought the paper’s circulation has crashed and its profitability greatly reduced during the pandemic and its owners, Newsquest, have announced a number of job cuts in their newspaper empire.
