Cases down/deaths up – The number of new coronavirus cases now appears to be falling steeply in Buckinghamshire. Yesterday 175 new cases were reported in the county compared to 391 last Monday.
However, as predicted by medics, the number of deaths is increasing as a consequence of the high numbers of new cases a few weeks ago. Last week in the Wycombe area, which includes Tylers Green and Hazlemere, 20 people died. In Chiltern region, which includes Penn, 19 died and in South Bucks (Beaconsfield area) 14 died.
Bin collection delayed – Rubbish bin collections were suspended in the village yesterday because of the weather. Collections this week will be a day later than usual. Some postal deliveries were also abandoned.
Army moves in – Troops from the Royal Artillery have been called in to help staff at Wexham Park Hospital. They are assisting with ward and bed changes, portering, pharmacy and logistics.
School laptop appeal – The Beaconsfield School is appealing for unwanted laptops that the school’s IT department could wipe and give to children who don’t have their own laptops or tablets to work from home. They need to be a quad core processor with a minimum 4gb memory and 64gb storage, wireless with a built in webcam and microphone. Flooding possible – The Environment Agency last night warned that flooding was possible around Marlow Lock today as the level of the River Thames continued to rise. There are already several flood alerts along the river.
Hatton is world number 5 – Marlow golfer Tyrrell Hatton moved up to fifth place when the new world golf rankings were announced yesterday. It’s his highest ever position and makes him Britain’s highest ranking golfer, two ahead of Rory McIlroy. It comes after he beat McIlroy in the Abu Dhabi championships at the weekend.
Heroic Blues – Tottenham Hotspur had to bring on their star players from the bench to beat Wycombe Wanderers in the fourth round of the FA Cup last night. The Chairboys were heroic but three goals in the final seven minutes of the game finished them off, losing 1-4.
