The Swan Theatre in High Wycombe has called off all productions, including its profitable pantomime, until next January. It says it is not viable to put on productions with current social distancing requirements. Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury has extended its closure from the end of September until 18 October. It is still hoping to put on a panto, as is the Theatre Royal at Windsor.
Penn and Tylers Green FC will have a limited number of spectators when its Hellenic League season begins. The home team, away team and match officials will stagger their entry and leaving times in and out of the changing rooms although players and officials are being asked to arrive in their soccer strip and to shower at home. Coach travel to away games is forbidden and everyone involved in games or training sessions needs to leave contact details for the track and trace system. Hand shaking and team huddles are ruled out.
In addition to pencils, rubber, scissors and glue stick children at Tylers Green First School will be given a small bottle of hand gel to put in their pencil cases when they return to school next month. They also need to bring their own water bottle as the water fountains will remain out of use.
Sir William Ramsay School in Rose Avenue has told parents it is not possible to have a staggered start to the day and that arriving on time is the student’s responsibility. There’s concern public transport will not be able to meet demand because of social distancing requirements in spite of a Government grant to provide more bus services. Students have also been told they will have to carry personal belongings with them through the school day as lockers will not be available.
Buckinghamshire Council says that, with a limited number of exceptions, school nurse visits, routine physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy sessions; child health drop-in services and community nursing services for children with a learning disability will remain suspended until further notice.
Penn and Tylers Green Women’s Institute has cancelled its annual autumn craft fair in the village hall.
Waddesdon Manor says it will not open the stately home for its popular Christmas display this year, but a light and laser display and Christmas market will be held in the grounds and available on a pre-booked basis.
Sir Steve Redgrave says contingency plans are being made to hold next July’s Henley Regatta without spectators if restrictions are still in place. “In September when winter training starts we need to know what we are aiming for in July,” he told the HenleyStandard. “You can’t say in February ‘oh, we aren’t going to have an event.’ People will have been preparing and training so it just has to be monitored.”
Health officials have named Slough as an “area of concern” after a general rise in Covid-19 cases in the last two weeks, although in the last day or two numbers have fallen again. Locally there has also been a slight increase in reported cases – 13 new cases in the Wycombe area this week compared with 11 new cases last week; 12 new cases in the Beaconsfield area compared with four the previous week; and five new cases in the Amersham area compared with one the previous week.
