Surgeries praised – Our two main GP surgeries have fared well in the 2020 patient survey conducted by the NHS. Highfield Surgery did best with a 92 per cent overall approval. Eighty seven per cent of patients said they waited less than 15 minutes to see a doctor or nurse – the best in the Wycombe area – and 98 per cent found the receptionists helpful.
The Simpson Centre, which includes Penn Surgery, had an 87 per cent overall approval. Eighty five per cent of patients said they waited less than 15 minutes to see a doctor or nurse, and 85 per cent found the receptionists helpful.
Both surgeries scored less when patients were asked if they were able to see their preferred GP. At Highfield 61 per cent of patients said they were able to do so, while at the Simpson Centre the figure was 38 per cent.
Crime stats – Figures show that crime didn’t drop as much as expected in the area during the lockdown month of May. The Police.UK website shows that in the Chepping Wye Valley area, which includes Tylers Green and Hazlemere, 89 crimes were reported, slightly less than the same month last year. Nearly half of them were classed as violence or sex offences.
In the Chalfont area, which includes Penn and Penn Street, 119 crimes were reported. Of those 49 were classified as violence or sex offences, more than the next three highest categories of anti-social behaviour, public order and vehicles crime added together.
Sandra’s farewell – Sandra Mason has retired after nearly 40 years organising the flower arrangements at St. Margaret’s, Tylers Green.
Andy’s award – Andy Walker, vice chairman of Penn and Tylers Green Football Club, has retired after 23 years service with the club. He was awarded life membership.
Filippo stands aside – After nearly 50 years cutting hair in the community Filippo has reduced his workload to two days a week. His barber shop in Rose Avenue has now been taken over by John Phillips and includes cuts and colours for ladies by Claire.
Path improvements – The parish council is to have another go at improving the main path on the back common between New Road and the track running opposite the village hall. It’s asked for quotes for raising the level of the path, including drainage and edging it with wood. Previous attempts to improve the path have failed due to flood damage.
Road improvements – The second phase of work to improve traffic flow on the A40 begins next week between the Micklefield Road and Gordon Road junctions. There will be disruption until early August.
Theft increase – Figures from the RAC show that thefts from cars in the Thames Valley Police area have increased by 86 per cent in the last four years.
Pub’s change – The sign for the Cookham Dean pub Uncle Tom’s Cabin is being replaced because it depicts a black slave.
